Paint spraying

Here at Surface Technik we employ a wide range of coating application techniques to apply a vast range of industrial paints in large environmentally controlled spray areas and booths.

All of the spraying we do at Surface Technik is carried out by our long serving and highly skilled work force. We pride ourselves on the quality of our finish and although many of the paints we use are predominantly industrial based, we are increasingly being asked to finish off multi coat systems using clear coat lacquers and high gloss top coats in order to achieve a showroom finish.

All of our painting is conducted in accordance to the British standard BS 5493:1977 The code of practice for protective coating of iron and steel structures against corrosion and BS EN ISO 12944-5:1998 Corrosion protection of steel structures by protective paint systems.

Conventional Spray

A spray gun combines the coating and compressed air from a separate air compressor in order to atomize the coating and direct it to the target surface. Whilst not terribly flexible or efficient, conventional Spray is often used to apply the ‘thinner’ type paints such as top coats and can give excellent results.

Airless spray

The spray gun is connected to a high pressure pump commonly found using 300 – 7500 psi pressure to atomize the coating using different tip sizes to achieve desired atomization and spray pattern size. Airless spraying can be used to spray difficult, thick coatings at a high volume, and is ideal for use on constructional steelwork.
Air Assisted Airless spray

This is a more modern method and is best described as a combination of the above two methods. The system uses air pressure combined with fluid pressure (300 – 3000 psi) to achieve atomization of the coating. It offers a very efficient transfer ratio and is ideal to use on many steel fabrications.

LVLP Spray

LVLP stands for Low volume Low Pressure. These spray guns operate at a much lower pressure (LP), and can apply a much lower volume (LV) of coating (paint). This system is ideal for the coating of small batch items where the desired finish must be to a very high standard.
